NATIONAL DESIGN COMPETITION FOR A RAILWAY BRIDGE IN AVEZZANO (ITALY) 2000 – FIRST PRIZE
The competition, from Public Administration of Avezzano, concerns the replacement of a rail crossing located in an urban area.
Due to the proximity of an important road, and because of the impossibility of achieving a traffic underway for the excessive slope of the ramp, the only possible choice was to slightly lower the road, and to simultaneously elevate the rail (which is a non-electrified one). The final result is a bridge made of steel and wood that can be a gateway to town, allowing the creation of public spaces below it, and a better impact of the entire intervention.
Il concorso e’ stato bandito dalla Amministrazione Comunale di Avezzano; il progetto attiene alla eliminazione di un passaggio a livello situato in una zona urbana; la scelta progettuale è stata di abbassare leggermente il profilo della strada ed elevare simultaneamente il tracciato ferroviario non elettrificato; il risultato finale è un ponte in acciaio e legno che può essere una porta della citta’, con al di sotto di esso spazi pubblici.
